Gradall Forklift Parts - The Gradall excavator was the brainchild of two brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda. The excavator was founded In the 1940's all through WWII, when there was a scarcity of workers. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force due to the war. As partners in their Cleveland, San Francisco construction business referred to as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available laborers in order to do the delicate job of finishing and grading on their interstate projects. The Ferwerda brothers decided to make a machine that would save their company by making the slope grading task less manual, easier and more efficient.
The first excavator prototype consisted of a machine with two industrial beams on a rotating platform fixed to a used truck. There was a telescopic cylinder which was used to move the beams backward and forward. This enabled the fixed blade at the far end of the beams to pull or push the dirt. Before long enhancing the first design, the brothers built a triangular boom to add more strength. Additionally, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom turn 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was placed at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the equipment to be equipped with either a blade or a bucket attachment.
1992 marked a crucial year for Gradall with their launch of XL Series hydraulics, the most remarkable change in the company's excavators ever since their creation. These top-of-the-line hydraulics systems allowed Gradall excavators to provide high productivity and comparable power on a realistic level to traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the initial Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These traditional systems efficiently handled finishing work and grading but had a difficult time competing for high productivity tasks.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their lifting and digging ability. These versions were made with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system which showed huge improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was also developed together with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators utilize an operator to select a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power meant for the job at hand. This makes the operator's overall task easier and even saves fuel at the same time.
When their XL Series hydraulics became available, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of equipment meant to tackle excavation, demolition, pavement removal as well as other industrial tasks. Marketability was further improved with their telescoping boom due to its exclusive ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
